Picnic in the Hills of Gourdon

The tiny French village of Gourdon is nothing short of picturesque. Quite so, it is beyond what would be pictured if thinking of a small, ancient, perched village whose views span out over rugged, wild-herbed hillsides, deep valleys and the glistening aqua-waters of the Mediterranean on the horizon. However, summer tourists by the hundreds buzzing through the cobbled streets on any given August day certainly can kill that Je ne sais quoi; in which case, the village is best experienced at a distance, accompanied with a chilled bottle of rosé and a local marché loot including saucisson sec, fromages, olives and sun-dried tomatoes.
